Pier Simeri is Community Relations & Public Affairs Director for the City of Avondale, AZ, a fast-growing city in the Phoenix metropolitan area. She was hired by the city as its first PIO in April 2000, after serving four years as public information officer for the Arizona Department of Health Services’ Bureau of Epidemiology and Disease Control. Prior to that, she spent ten years as a journalist, first for the Singapore Straits Times, and as a reporter for the West Valley View, where she covered everything from crime and government, to features and movie reviews.
As Avondale’s Community Relations Director, she oversees community and media relations, marketing and special events, council relations as well as the city’s state and federal intergovernmental and lobbying program. She has been an active member and supporter of 3CMA since 2000. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree (Hons.) in English/Linguistics from the National University of Singapore, and is a graduate of Arizona State University’s Certified Management Program (CPM).
