Questions and Responses from the Webinar

Why are the rules changing?
We found that geographic page names such as "City of Palo Alto" do not sufficiently inform the user about what page they are connecting to and who administers that page. Some think it is the Mayor, the tourism board or the local chamber.

What exactly do we need to change in our page name? If we change the descriptor under the page name does that count? If our page is City of X (Official) do we have to change it to (Official Government) to comply with the rules? What if we are a department of a city government, does it still have to say Government?
You need to actually clarify your page name, it is not enough to just change the descriptor underneath it. If your page is City of X (Official) you do need to add Government or City Hall or another descriptor to it like (Official Government). If you are a department and your page is currently named something like City of X Police Department you are fine and do not need to add the word government. You just need a description of some sort in your name.

Does this apply to counties as well as cities?
Yes this applies to all geographic locations from countries, states, counties, cities, towns and villages.

Can we come up with a unique name for our city government like the Latvia page or do we need to be identified as the government?
You can come up with a unique name like the Latvia page.

Will our URL change?
No, your URL will remain the same.

Where can I get the rename form?
http://on.fb.com/fblocationname (NOTE: You must be logged into Facebook for this link to work)

If I wasn’t notified? does that still mean I have to change my page name?
Yes, it just means you weren't included in our first wave of notifications. We would really appreciate folks helping us out and proactively changing their names to comply, but if you don't we will eventually notify you.

How do we get rid of rogue pages and impersonators?
On those pages there is a drop down underneath the cover photo on the right hand side. The icon looks like a gear. Click on that and choose to report the page.

Can you provide some examples of names that are OK and Names that aren’t?
City of Palo Alto is not ok. City Government of Palo Alto, City of Palo Alto Police Department, City of Palo Alto Mayors Office, Mayors Office of Palo Alto, Palo Alto, CA City Hall are all ok.
