Help us connect our community to their park system through meaningful stories, collaborative dialogue and community engagement.
The Marketing and Communications Division connects residents with services, programs, and park system by disseminating public information, implementing marketing campaigns, and maintaining media relations. This position will establish and maintain relationships with a variety of community stakeholders. The applicant should be prepared to work with diverse communities to accomplish the Department’s mission of providing, protecting and preserving a park system that promotes quality recreational, cultural and outdoor experiences for the community.
The ideal applicant will have experience with facilitation, particularly in a setting with competing interests/points of view. They’d also have experience managing conflict within an organization or community. Additionally, the position calls for strong project management skills. For example: Experience working across an organization and with multiple outside partners to coordinate meetings/events.
Bilingual English-Spanish is preferred, but not required.
The Department has been the trusted steward of our city’s public lands since 1928, and is one of the most dynamic and highly regarded parks systems in the nation. By protecting and maintaining parkland, preserving trails, managing green spaces and nature preserves, we provide more than 29,000 acres of parkland for our community to enjoy quiet retreats and lively play, to commune with nature and to connect with each other. But we don’t stop there. In addition to the abundant parks and trails, the Department also oversees a wide variety of programs, services and activities to Austin citizens and visitors of all ages.
This position requires a criminal background investigation.
Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited four (4) college or university with major coursework in Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Advertising or related field. Four (4) years of experience in developing and implementing programs of public information
Salary Range: $23.65 - $30.64 per hour
