General Summary

This is a highly professional and responsible position incorporating a multi-faceted set of responsibilities. Responsible administrative position coordinating various programs, activities, and publications in order to provide information to the public. Acts as a liaison between the County, the media, and community groups and individual residents and businesses. Coordinates the production and dissemination of public information using various mediums including print, Internet, radio, TV, social media and public presentations.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Directs the writing and distribution of press releases; responds to media inquiries; acts as county spokesperson before the news media as needed.
  • Manages the Government Channel.
  • Creates and implements communication policies and strategies for the County.
  • Directs internal communications, including status updates, and announcements.
  • Oversees the county marketing and publicity activities.
  • Advises administrators and elected officials on communications-related matters.
  • Implements an effective communication plan to ensure public involvement. Includes development of a crisis communication plan.
  • Maintains consistency of the brand throughout the organization.

Min. Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, political science or a related field and 4 years of professional experience as a public information officer or in in public relations, journalism, public administration or related field. Experience in crisis communications or public safety information will be considered.
