Community Relations Specialist

Reporting to the Community Relations Manager, this position will provide high-level professional support to the Community Relations Division.

This position supports programs and initiatives that include communications strategies, resident outreach and participation, on-call media responsibilities and crisis media management, in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment. We are looking for a strategic designer who embraces creative, trend-setting social media tactics, who will also bring a wealth of knowledge regarding new ways to maximize all communications graphically, while managing many different projects that will connect our community with its local government.

We are seeking an individual with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with course work in communications, journalism, public relations or a related field, and a minimum of three years of increasingly responsible experience providing a wide range of public relations, communications and/or marketing communications services that includes working with a variety of issues in an advisory role; or any equivalent combination. Preference will be given to candidates with excellent graphic design skills; exceptional writing and communication skills; the ability to connect and articulate complex communication campaigns graphically for print and social media. 

Our new Community Relations Specialist will have successful experience (but not limited to) designing and generating camera-ready graphics; writing for a variety of platforms including the web, producing video and designing social media content in line with overall strategy including HTML, photography and producing videos; generating news releases and engaging in media relations, including experience as an emergency on-call public information officer. Public sector experience in local government is a plus, but not required. A valid State driver’s license is required. The successful candidate must satisfactorily complete a criminal background and driving record check prior to commencing employment.
