                 $62,700.00 - $91,500.00 Annually

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Responsible for the coordination of City  marketing and communications activities and oversight of Public Communications Office (PCO).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as the central authority and resource for communications and marketing activities of the City 
  • Manages the planning and implementation of communications and marketing programs promoting the vision, goals, activities, and image of City government to citizens, neighborhoods, business community and community leaders, in alignment with the City’s strategic plan. 
  • Oversees policy development and implementation for the main communication channels for the City including the City website, social media sites, and print materials 
  • Supervises the public communications office activities to achieve goals within budgeted funds and available staff; reviews progress and makes changes in priorities and schedules as needed 
  • Develops and conducts formal and informal presentations to City staff, City management, City Council, and community groups and organizations 
  • Oversees planning and development of objectives and strategies for the PCO division to achieve the vision articulated in the PCO strategic plan and the city-wide communications plan 
  • Oversees the City’s internal communications strategy, including the employee newsletter and other citywide communications materials 
  • Develops, administers, and monitors the public communications division budget; assists other departments with communication program budget planning 
  • Investigates, develops, and analyzes cost-effective communication programs and activities designed to increase community understanding, engagement, and support of City decisions, activities, and policies 
  • Conducts the planning, research, writing, editing, and preparation of communications and printed publications that provide detailed information on City programs and policies 
  • Maintains contact with local, state, and national professional organizations in order to keep informed of emerging communications trends and technologies 
  • Coordinates various communication/education campaigns for city departments, including the drought contingency plan, water conservation plan, and mosquito surveillance and response plan 
  • Coordinates with the Public Information Officer on the dissemination of information to the public and media 
  • Provides leadership and guidance to other communication professionals within the organization

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Communication, or related field 
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in communications and marketing or a related field 

OR

  • Master’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Communication, or related field 
  • Two years of progressively responsible experience in communications and marketing or a related field
